Maggie Lawrence
Maggie Lawrence is an award winning writer, (and film maker), who began her creative writing career as a journalist and advertising copywriter.
She worked for a major Melbourne newspaper, where she had her own feature column and byline. Maggie later trained as an advertising copywriter at Ogilvy and Mather in Melbourne, and freelanced for agencies in Sydney and London. One of the agencies was M&C Saatchi in London where Maggie gained a personal reference from advertising guru Sir Maurice Saatchi.
Maggie has now given up the world of advertising in favour of writing screenplays and books, that hopefully offer something of value to the world. Her first children’s book 'An Element of Fun' was published by Lulu and can be purchased on Amazon.
She also completed a novel, five screenplays and several situation comedy series pilots and is presently writing a novel for young adults.
One of Maggie’s feature length screenplays won an award in Hollywood in 2004. The same screenplay became a quarter finalist in the well known American screenwriting competition Scriptapaloosa in 2006.
Maggie has received recognition in the film and television industry for her comedy material. An original situation comedy pilot 'Culture Shock' was nominated for an Australian Writers‘ Guild Monte Miller Award. Another situation comedy pilot series 'The Paris End of Nowhere' was in development with ABC TV in Melbourne. Maggie has since developed this into a feature length romantic comedy screenplay. Her comedy blog features a British aristocrat, Lady Ophelia-Austen Featherbrew who is stuck in the Antipodes, and writes regular blogs about her experiences and frustrations Down Under.
In June 2007, she launched her film making career with a short film 'Point Blank' that she wrote, produced and directed. It has been screened at several International film festivals.
In addition to her writing and film making careers, Maggie studied professional photography at Thames Valley University in London, and aromatherapy in the United Kingdom where she gained a diploma in aromatherapy from the Shirley Price School of Aromatherapy. Maggie was a member of the International Federation of Aromatherapists. However she no longer practices Aromatherapy massage. She has also completed two levels of Aura-Soma colour therapy.
She practises Transcendental Meditation and has a keen interest in healing with flower essences and loves swimming in Ocean pools.
