Every day we are greeted by green. Why do you think nature chose this colour to carpet our world?

If you don't like the colour green you'd better move to another planet. With the exception of blue, green is seen more often than any other colour on the Earth. And there is a good reason why Nature made sure we would be surrounded by this colour.

Green is a cool colour that is soothing and calming as well as energising. It brings balance and healing to our entire being. And if you think this is nonsense, just think about how refreshed and at peace you feel when you walk in a rainforest, or a beautiful park. No wonder nature organised so much green around us because without being in balance we cannot love ourselves. And when we cannot love ourselves, we cannot give love to anyone else.

Green for the Heart

The colour green is related to the heart chakra that looks after our heart and other organs around this region. Green stimulates the circulatory system and is nurturing and comforting to the heart.

Chakras are wheels of energy that are located in seven major places on our bodies beginning at the base of the spine and ending over the top of the head. Each chakra has a particular colour associated with it and has the role of keeping certain parts of our body functioning well with the correct energy flow to keep everything in our bodies working efficiently.

Being connected to the heart this chakra is all about unconditional love. Not just love of others but love and acceptance of the self. When this Chakra gets out of balance problems relating to the heart, the breasts and immune system can manifest in the physical.

Green with Envy

All colours have good and bad qualities. At some time we've probably all used the expression "I was green with envy". But have you every given much thought to why green? One of the negative qualities associated with green is jealousy. Other negative associations are being unscrupulous with money, indifference, being miserly and impractical, hanging onto possessions and inconsideration.

Good qualities associated with the colour green are generosity, sympathy, compassion, understanding, harmony, adaptability and practicality.

How Green Can Improve Our Health

If we're feeling stressed, irritable and strung out green is a good colour to have around for a while due to its soothing and calming effect on the body, mind and emotions. It relieves tension in the blood vessels and is good for lowering blood pressure.

Due to the positive effect green has on the nervous system it's also useful as a sedative to help us sleep. So a gentle green colour is useful to have in the bedroom. And being a cool colour green is great for wearing on a hot day.

Green builds muscle and tissues, is antiseptic and purifying and has even been known to be an aphrodisiac. It can also bring a friendly and peaceful state of mind and increase a sense of hope, faith and trust.

Green is balancing to the autonomic nervous system. It can help improve physical conditions of the heart and is useful for circulatory disorders. Green can also help with exhaustion and lessen the severity of headaches.

Those who Like and Dislike Green

We all have our favourite colours and the attraction we have to these colours may be because on some deep level we know how beneficial the colour can be for us. People who don't like green are often very independent people who choose to focus on self-development rather than on developing strong bonds with family.

On the other hand those who are strongly drawn to the colour green are often people with a deep love of nature, plants and animals, or those drawn to the healing professions. They are often people who are seeking more peace, harmony and comfort in their lives. Sometimes we can be drawn to having more green around us when we are hoping to avoid a conflict with someone.

Green Light in Healing

Those who work with colours in meditation will sometimes suggest visualising our bodies being surrounded in a green light due to the overall balancing and healing properties of this colour.

Green is also a colour associated with Archangel Raphael. In esoteric circles the green Ray of light which is also known as 'the green flame' is a symbol of truth, balance and the crystallization of substance, knowledge and science. It leads to analysis and development of ideas, especially Divine ideas.

With all that Green can do for us, it's hardly surprising that when we think of nature and our environment, we think of green.
